Anjaneyulu : a critique

Anjaneyulu, a Tollywood movie starred by RaviTeja and Nayanatara. A movie which leaves you skeptical about what the director wants to reflect with his new venture. When I caught up with this movie, I was expecting something different, as always. That is what the directors are pushed to do now a days for a hit. This director, a Parsuram is either oversmart or careless to end up doing things just too differently which circled back to be a routine collection of scenes and sentiments from already hit movies, jam-packed into one which is far away from attracting movie lovers.. forget abt normal audience. I feel he saw too many movies at once and the very next day he directed this movie. You can feel the awkwardness seriously. But let me tell you. Don't buy this feeling. I suffered, along with a bunch of friends. No one was happy, spending 15 SGD for a TELUGU movie in singapore, which is quite affordable. I say even it is free of cost, not a good deal.

Lets come to just some issues of the movie.

Conveying the false: 99% of the serious scenes are just a pack of comedy scenes . And the comedy scenes have gone silly. Though you wont run into any emotions, you can know that the scene should be serious, atleast when both the parents of our hero die. Which is immediately followed by an item song, praising the hero. Hello director sir! audience just cant take such a contrast. If you are desperate to put an item song, 4-5 duets, 6 fights, etc etc., its late enough that you need to realize, it has been a decade old strat in tollywood and so need real good timing and sense to continue with that. And regarding comedy scenes, yea there comes Brahmandam. I agree he is a great comedian. But overly used nowadays and this movie proves it. And you know!.. the CEO of a TV channel is the fool of first class. It is like the characters around are designed, way out of practicality to give a hint, that there is some comedy in the scene.

Be devilishly optimistic: Hero is the only eligible, strongest, cleverest, the best of all to have the capacity to face Home Minister, MLA, IPS officers and the best of all , BADA, city's/state's biggest gangster, all alone. And at a time, when each of these are afraid that they will be caught in a police case because of the investigation, our CLEVEREST hero secretly carries out, they do the dumbest thing ever. They all meet and enjoy seeing half nude Kim Sharma. Yea, this is the first thing you have to do, when you are stuck in the midst of a life-death situation. And so giving a chance for the hero, the STRONGEST, who is spying in the BADA's gang to bang each of them with all the time in the world. So I should say the hero is the LUCKIEST of all too.

You cant be wrong: In this movie, audience can never go wrong in anticipating what is next. Hero-heroine love. Parents die -- grudge -- kill all -- police commissioner praises him at last, as he has proofs that the assoles are actually assoles. So the message is once you have a proof, go around and punish the wrong doers ourselves.. is it? .... YEAAAA... I got the point.. its the hero... never can be punished... dint I say he is the luckiest !

Some positives: Had a tough time sorting out the positives. Hero action is good, but routine. It is exceptional in the parents' death-ICU scene. Some situational comedy dialogues are good. Some are just for adults. 1st half is littttttttle better than the 2nd. But ofcourse never worth the hassle.

I cant go more than this. So uncomfortable to assign so many superlatives to this hero character. Can the director see it? !!!

No one can actually feel the movie. It is like you are bound to check if the bet (ticket you buy, not heeding to this blog), is worth or not. And finally you lose it.

Hero didn't choose a good director /story. Even the songs are not impressive enough.

Writing this is easy for me. I agree a lot of work goes behind a movie. But that work is not a calculated risk. At the end I want to be entertained, but not disquieted. I just warn you.
